Celebrating 6 years at Maltby Street
It’s our anniversary… this October we will be celebrating six years at Maltby Street Market.
To be honest, it feels a lot longer. After a meeting with Rachel McCormack, who ran things back then, we were offered our first spot. Not directly on The Ropewalk yet though, as for the first four months we traded inside the Lassco Ropewalk warehouse.
There were benefits; 2012 was a bitterly cold winter and our customers could eat in comfort on tables and chairs. We think we sold 40 waffles that first Saturday. We were ecstatic. See for yourselves. Here’s a clip back when food hunter Kate Gowing from Relish visited us to learn how to make our buttermilk waffles…
The following March we moved outside, and have had the same pitch bang in the middle of the market ever since. A lot has changed in that time. Three times as many traders, Sunday trading. Thousands of visitors, rather than a few hundred. Our menu has developed too in that time.
Today, foodies from all over the world come to eat our waffles. We wouldn’t have it any other way and are looking forward to the next 6 years.
